We were amazed at the sheer size of Carden Park itself. Moments later the building we've been waiting to see, the Carden country house, emerges. The golf course comes into view and you begin to see civilisation. Quaint bridges arching over ponds and Victorian style lantern lampposts appear now and then at the side of the road, making the estate's introduction almost like the start of a C.S Lewis novel. The 15mph road almost runs for a mile so you do have plenty of time to have a nosey around. It almost felt like we took a wrong turn as we drove down what seemed like somebody's private road, flanked by spruces, and ferns and autumnal flowers. The estate entrance arrived on our left of Broxton Road, complete with flags of the British Isles and a grand, bricked sign, signalling that we had arrived at Carden Park. Our drive took us through Tattenhall, and when the scenery changed from the hard shoulder of the M53 to horses grazing the fields, I knew we weren't far. We visited Carden on a Friday and after a stressful week I was looking forward to being wined, dined and pampered at a place, as let's face it, I probably couldn't uld I? (we will come on to this later). Relaxing is the main drawcard here, and if I'm paying an average of £149 for a one night stay (not including spa), I best be relaxed. Well, when we were invited to be on Carden's guestlist for one night and to try out their new £1.5m addition of The Lounge, adjacent to one of four of their restaurant's, The Vines, we got a VIP experience we will never forget.īefore we get to that part though, let's start from the beginning.
